Here’s Why Your Blog Sucks at Making Money & How to Fix It.
So you love to blog and you don’t give a crap how much money the blog makes…ok then this post is not for you. (and who are you kidding…Really?)
Let’s be honest, the majority of bloggers out there (like 99% of them) look for different ways to monetize a blog and make money for all their hard work designing great content for you. This is why they put Adsense or banner ads on their blogs with the expectation that they will earn cash in return for all the traffic that comes in.
I get it…Adsense is easy to install, and you can see results as soon as you place it on your pages. We even have Adsense on this blog, and we have paid advertisers. (thanks by the way).
While Adsense and ads for blogs to earn money can produce income, many bloggers have quickly realized how little revenue comes in per 1000 views on their blogs. Ad blockers and banner blindness are probably two big reasons but there are many other reasons why these ads for blogs to earn money can suck the life out of a blog.
People know ads when they see them, and less people are clicking ads. This equates to less revenue from your hard work.

BLOG ADS PAY YOU PEANUTS.
It is painfully slow to earn money from Adsense or Blog ads. Its getting worse too because people are now aware of ads and they purposely do not click them.
Unless you have massive blog traffic it’s almost embarrassing to think of how much money you actually make from your blog using traditional banner ads and adsense.
If you use Adsense to try and earn money from your blog you will be paid more or less depending on what your blog topic is actually about.
Let’s say your blog is about weight loss (which is a high paying topic). You are only getting about $2 – $4 per 1000 page views on your blog. I have ran diet blogs before so I am not guessing here. I have also had some ad spots pay $6-$12 per 1000 views but my point is it is still peanuts in the grand scheme.
Too many blog ads make you look like a SLEAZE BAG…
Imagine you meet a person for the first time and the first thing you do is pitch them some new products you have inside your coat…how sleazy is that? The same applies to your blog. It is a fact that people are becoming more and more aware of ads and are becoming blind to them. Many people even hate ads.
If you are blatantly pitching numerous products and ads to your new visitors, you are going to lose their trust. Every time they come back they trust you less and less…until they just stop reading.
You have No Control Over Low Paying Ads…& Content
You have a bunch of people coming to your blog for a specific reason. Google Adsense or any other Ad networks will decide what they show based on a complicated algorithm. Some ads that show on your blog may not even be related to what your readers are interested in. Ads from networks can be highly inconsistent, and therefore you make less money, and have no control over some of your content.
It is VERY difficult to build consistent blog revenue if you are constantly showing people different ads on your site with no rhyme or reason.
You have no control over whether the ads will even be allowed on your site for long periods of time. Depending on your content Google, or other ad networks you use for monetization, may just ban you and not pay you even for a small infringement of their terms.
Your Traffic Is Low or Not Targeted
If you want to make money you need traffic. So many people believe that they can just put up a pretty website, write some great stories and that people will just start reading by the thousands. But if you are here you probably know by now that traffic is the number one reason your blog doesn’t make any cash. The more traffic you have the more money you make. It’s really that simple.

I am not suggesting you remove Adsense from your pages…or slam the doors to people who want to buy ad space from you.

If you really want to do what the big players are doing when it comes to monetizing your blog, then you need to sell something, or get action directly from within your blog posts, but you need to do it in an honest way.
You could sell your own product or an affiliate product. Building your own product can be effective but it comes with a lot of hard work, customer service, processing software, security and a myriad of other things you need to consider.
By acting as an affiliate you can fast track your way to high earnings by promoting well designed offers in both a cost per sale, or cost per action model.
Many of the highest paid bloggers in the world are actually promoting affiliate offers directly in their content.
For example, if you were an Amazon affiliate you can link to pretty much anything directly from your own blog posts, including some of your favorite books with affiliate links. If one of your readers clicked on a link and purchased something on Amazon, you’d get a small commission.
